The Head of Legal Claims is responsible for leading a team of litigation attorneys in managing complex, high-exposure legal matters. This role plays a critical part in developing and executing legal strategies that support broader claims and underwriting goals while mitigating enterprise risk. Key responsibilities include overseeing litigation best practices, guiding defense counsel, evaluating coverage issues, and participating in high-stakes claim decisions. The Head of Legal Claims will also collaborate with internal leadership to analyze emerging legal trends, manage the legal bill review process, and contribute to the selection and performance management of external counsel.
The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in insurance-related litigation, with a strong background in leading legal teams. They should bring exceptional analytical and communication skills, a proactive approach to complex legal challenges, and a history of providing clear legal guidance in dynamic environments. A Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar membership are required; a CPCU designation and completion of the Program in General Insurance are preferred.
